Warehouse Optimisation
Warehouse optimisation includes physical automation via strategic analysis of warehouse operations and improvements to processes.
Read MoreAutonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) offer efficiency, flexibility and intelligence to provide an automated solution to numerous operational tasks within a warehouse or distribution centre.
AMRs replace traditional fulfilment tasks aimed at increasing pickers’ efficiency and productivity across warehouse operations.
Typically order picking equates to around 55% of operating costs, so eliminating travel time for order picking can significantly increase productivity.
AMRs automate tasks, reducing time and labour, allowing workers to focus on complex activities, enhancing overall productivity.
Easily reprogrammable AMRs adapt to changes in tasks or layout, providing scalable solutions for dynamic warehouse environments.
Advanced sensors ensure safe operation and precise navigation, improving workplace safety and task accuracy, reducing errors.
This system can autonomously locate the required tote with the order item(s) from the racking storage structure and manoeuvre this to a designated manual packing or workstation.
The required item is removed from the tote ready for order processing, and the robot then returns the tote to a specific location within the structure for subsequent picks, or for replenishment.
These AMRs can be fitted with picking tools such as grippers, forks or conveyors, allowing the AMRs to pick SKUs for a specific order.
For these operations, the robot receives an order requiring one or more items, then navigates autonomously to where the product is located, picks the item and places it either in compartments or tote, ready to take to a designated manual packing or workstation.
Inventory robots autonomously navigate warehouse aisles, scanning shelves and verifying stock levels.
Equipped with sensors and imaging technology, they conduct precise inventory checks, detect misplaced items, and report discrepancies to the warehouse management system (WMS) in real time.
Once their task is complete, they return to standby, reducing human error and enhancing inventory accuracy.
Shuttle systems retrieve and transport items in totes/pallets along fixed tracks within high-density storage racks.
When an order is placed, the shuttle brings the required tote/pallet to a central picking station, then returns it to its designated slot.
Efficient and space-saving, these systems speed up picking and replenishment, maximising storage capacity and improving order fulfillment.
The scalable nature of AMR systems has made them suitable for warehouse operators of all sizes. AMRs deliver a positive ROI by enhancing productivity, accuracy, and speed while reducing labour costs.
At SEC, our intelligent warehouse designs are driven by in-depth operational data analysis, ensuring optimal storage solutions and the right type of automation for maximum efficiency.
Thanks to ongoing innovation and increased implementation, we integrate AMRs into our designs, providing flexible, scalable solutions that benefit warehouses of any size.
Autonomous Mobile Robots are commonly used in warehouse and logistics environments for order-picking operations, zone picking, goods-to-person, autonomous piece picking or flexible sortation.
Their in-built intelligence allows them to move around a warehouse or DC facility independently, without the need for pre-defined routes or walkways and are particularly well suited to assist with e-Commerce and 3PL operations.
