Digital Twinning, Simulations and Data Analytics

Our storage management solutions are driven by innovation and go far beyond the conventional use of data; incorporated within our analytical tools are aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as virtual twinning, simulation techniques, and advanced statistical analysis.
A digital twin is a virtual model, designed to accurately reflect a physical object. These are normally created in order to gather a greater understanding of data volume, and gain overall data insights. Developing a digital twin through in-depth data analysis allows us to fully understand a customer’s operations and test our solution in various ways, to demonstrate how we would optimise operations. This allows us to provide statistically-informed solutions for optimising material flows and monitoring processes.

Deep Learning is a specific form of AI that is used to analyse ‘big’ datasets and identify previously hidden patterns. For some of our customers, Deep Learning has had an enormous impact and we’ve seen applications that have dramatically improved forecasting, increased delivery vehicle utilisation, and reduced order picking travel-times.

Our ability to provide innovation through design is further strengthened by our understanding of the latest and most appropriate technology available in the marketplace. Using a similar concept to Deep Learning AI, ‘Machine Learning’ combines low-cost sensor technology, robotics and the principles of deep learning, to create machines that can interact with and learn from, the physical world we live.
A good example of this uses fully autonomous, Collaborative Robotic Trollies (CRTs) which are capable of safely following manual pickers around the warehouse before taking the picked orders back to a drop-off point. Just before they leave the operative, they are replaced by another – keeping the picker continuously active. In a recent study carried out by us, CRTs were able to generate a 34% increase in productivity, even in relatively small warehouses, and generally return on investment was less than 18 months.
